Jane Griffin, who was orphaned in the terrible tragedy at the Rising Sun, Box, nearly 60 years ago, has written to us:

Hi to PC Bosley,
I am Jane from the Rising Sun pub that was destoyed in 1957. I'd like to thank him and all who helped.
Thank you all,
Jane

After the disaster Jane went to live with her uncle and aunt in Beer, Devon and she now has three children and is grandma to seven grandchildren. She is currently living happily in Cambridgeshire. You can read the full story of this sad disaster at:

Wow, what great news to hear that Jane has lived a happy life after the Rising Sun explosion. I can remember being woken up by the blast, when I was 5 years old, and living just behind the Hare and Hounds in Corsham. We've just posted a history of the event on our CorshamWilts Facebook page if you are interested. And I hope that you don't mind, but I've added in a sentence about Jane's message to you. Regards, Julian Carosi. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.1466307757003287&type=1

I am Louise, Jane's cousin. My sister Susan, my mother Barbara Davies (formerly Rogers), nee Smith and I were all rescued from the disaster at The Rising Sun on 4th December 1957. I was almost 4 years old but I have memories of it. Many people took great risks to save us all, for which we are truly grateful. Sadly, my mother Barbara, died on 5th March 2016. She was always reluctant to speak about this tragedy as it brought back such terrible memories.
