John Bullock was said to be from Box in the 1820s and the family built the clock on the site of the Co-op on the High Street. Can anyone help with more information please?
We have a request for information about the Bullock family who ran a clock and watch shop in Pickwick, Corsham. We know the family were also connected with Box.

A group of residents has been seen poking in the undergrowth around the golf course. Looking for golf balls? No! So what are they doing? They are a working party, led by Kingsdown resident Ara Krikorian (left), looking for evidence of prehistoric remains similar to the Avebury Stone Circle. You can read about their initial findings at Kingsdown Stone Circle? It's an intriguing story and could it possibly be correct? We are delighted that a number of people are looking at the site searching for information about Box's World War 1 soldiers. We are compiling the stories of all who lost their lives and many who served and returned for publication in our July issue.
We should be delighted to share information with readers before then if they send us their email address. In April we are publishing your tributes to these men, so please get in touch to give stories about your family during the war. As Issue 1 begins to draw to a close, it's a big, big thank you to the 4,300 readers who visited articles on the website; the contributors who posed questions and contributions on the blog pages; and those who helped so much in the launch including Chris Jones, Mike Lyons, Sophie Lovell and many, many others. As a Community History site we welcome all and every offer of help.
We are finalising Issue 2 which features articles on the 1950s and 1960s and will be launched on 1st April. It's full of brand new stories about the period, the fashions and pop music of the Swinging Sixties and the nuclear threat to us all in Box. Do you have any stories or photos of the village and its residents at that time? And don't forget, if you want to receive the free quarterly email newsletter, please tell us. You can use the Contact tab for convenience. A reader has set us an interesting challenge to find the family tree that goes back furthest into Box's past. If your ancestors lived here at least 100 years ago tell us about them and how you are descended from our village ancestors. It's open to all people including those who still live in the village and those who have moved on. We don't expect descendants of Queen Victoria (left) to apply but get out your charts all you Northeys, Hancocks, Danceys, Sheppards, Newmans and the rest. We need your ancestors. |
