Augustus F Perren  Summer 2025   Issue 48

Picture
Augustus Perren's wonderful photograph of the brays of Galloway
The story of Augustus Frederick Perren is remarkable but until now has never been recorded. Augustus was a nationally-recognised photographer in the late Victorian period who became famous for his pioneering work. In Box village he had an additional accolade because of his service over five decades as the organist at Box Church.

This entire issue is devoted to the remarkable photos that Augustus F Perren took of people and places in his most active years 1884 to 1902. They are a unique view of the village at that time and we are indebted to his family and particularly his great nephew Simon Finlay for allowing us to publish them.
