The Oily Series of Tunnels Neil Reaich December 2017
Reading Richard Pinker’s article about the demise of some Box underground tunnels, I thought that you and he may be interested in this survey (above right) of that section of Box. It was completed by the Shepton Mallett Caving Club about 1994 and revealed a new series of tunnels previously unknown to explorers of the quarries. We discovered it by squeezing through from an end-bay.
It ties in well with Richard Pinker's map (above left) and the fact that we found oil down there. We actually called it Oily Series (note the section marked as polluted).
