Life in Box     Alan Payne    Photographs courtesy Diana Northey    February 2020
The photographs in these albums are quite remarkable, showing the Northey family relaxing at home in Box. As such, they give an insight into the members of the family as well as the village in the years around the start of the twentieth century.

The photo left is believed to be the only known photo of Anson Northey as an adult, standing to the left of his grandfather George Wilbraham and father George Edward in about 1905. The photo above is of a family member serving as a nurse in World War I.
There are a few images of the landscape in Box, showing the importance of woodland to provide building materials at a time before plastic and rolled steel joists (RSJ beams) dominated construction.
