Family Droving Richard Pinker, September 2023
The recent article on Drove Roads was a really good read. It sparked a personal memory with me regarding my father
Arthur Aubrey Pinker participating in a drove from Trowbridge to London sometime around 1920s, presumably of sheep, This was possibly because his father-in-law, William Rudd of Trowbridge, was a butcher. William started in a small way operating his business from Market Street and running a market stall in the 1890s. As the business expanded he developed two shops, one at Fore Street and the other at Newtown in Trowbridge. I tried searching for more about Box drove routes but could not find much.
