Box's Shoe Sculpture        Bob Draper         February 2019
Picture
A few decades ago, someone took me into a wood in Box and showed me a sculpture which was a sphere about 3m in diameter made of wire netting and completely covered in shoes.
Does it still exist?
Who was the artist?
Was it created for any particular event?
Love to know, thanks.

The person who showed it to me was Nicola Burgess, who suggested it could have been David or Richard  Mock. Does this ring any bells?
Fascinating email, thank you for the question, Bob. Several years ago we recall seeing the sphere you mention from the lane between Washwells and Henley Lane. Perhaps the sculptor lived there? At the same time the shoe circle pictured appeared near the track between Weavern and Slaughterford. Indeed, shoes can be seen along the track to this day. A mystery indeed.

Perhaps someone out there knows the answer?

Please help solve the mystery if you know anything about these installations.
