Secret Message Solved                    Mark Jenkinson                    December 2016
Mark has been researching the graffiti in the underground Box Tunnels which often involves detective work such as that involved in deciphering the Box Fete Poster published recently. So the puzzle of the secret message on the Box Postcard of the Blind House, sent to Chippenham in 1907, was probably an easy job - answer below for those who want it.

We hope to use more of Mark's detective skills with the underground writings and illustrations made by Victorian Box quarry workers when they were on breaks from extracting the stone. Their writings give an amazing insight into the lives and minds of this group of people with references to their day-to-day interests, their religious beliefs and their calculations of how much money they were owed by the quarry ganger for their piecework output.

And it is a big thank-you to Mark for his contributions to the website. We love to receive your comments suggestions and, of course, your corrections to any of our stories to help to get Box's history as accurate as possible.
