Kingsmoor House Fire
Stephen Eyles
October 2018

I have just been reading the article about Kingsmoor House and thought you might like to hear a story my late father, Graham Eyles, told me about it.

As you already know his house on the Devizes Road looks over the Box Valley and we could see Kingsmoor quite clearly. Graham's office was in the front room of our house and one day something caught his eye - flames and smoke coming out of one of the windows of Kingsmoor.

He called the Fire Brigade and the person answering the phone didn't seem very interested: We've had so many false alarms from there. One of the children must have set the alarm off again. My father responded, Well there's flames licking out of the window so I'm not sure! to which the fireman slammed the phone down and scrambled his colleagues!

I don't remember the precise date of this incident; it was probably in the early 1990s. Anyway, it must have been a frightening incident for whoever was resident at the time.

Anyone recall the incident?
