Box History Trails      Brand New for 2016
Box NATS and Box People and Places are combining their resources to put on a series of walks to discover more about the history of the area. The walks are free and open to all but you need to book your place via the Contact tab or by emailing us at [email protected]. Please confirm which event you want to book.
Inside Box Mad House Sunday 5 June 2pm
The story of Kingsdown House and its owners behind the austere exterior of one of the oldest lunatic asylums in England. Visit the acute hospital rooms where patients were spied upon (please bring your own strait jacket to enjoy the full experience), the original house dating from the early 1600s and the hidden graffiti left by residents.

Meeting point: Longsplatt layby between Golf course and toll house;
easy walking; 2 miles circular trail.

Thomas Railway Trail Sunday 3 July 2pm
Find the real-life engines and characters behind the famous children's stories. Locate the historic stone wharves and Mill Lane Railway Halt in the centre of Box village. Weather permitting we enjoy a bring-your-own picnic near Middlehill Tunnel.

Safe meeting point Doctors' Surgery;
children accompanied by adult; suitable for push chair in good weather.

Medieval Market Place Sunday 7 August 2pm
Lots of answers uncovered as we find out who probably founded the market, the history of Coleridge and Frogmore Houses, why part of the area is called The Parade, Box's Victorian Brewery and Steam Mill, the origin of Glovers Lane and the history of the old Chequers Pub.

Meeting point and car parking at Selwyn Hall carpark;
easy walking, 2 miles circular trail.
