Goulstones and Goodhinds
Peter Effer

August 2019

Peter Effer is a regular reader from Canada, whose researches into his family history also help us discover more about earlier village residents. Peter wrote:

I happened to re-read your May 2017 article entitled
Goodhind Family - The Struggle for Work and Status.
I just thought I would mention that Charles Hill Goodhind was Thomas Goulstone’s half-brother, both sharing the same mother, Betty Hill Goodhind.

Charles was born out of wedlock before Betty Hill was married to James Goulstone. I am not sure if there are Goodhind descendants still living in Box, but if there are, they are cousins with the Goulstone descendants and may not even know it and since the Protector Seymour line flows through Betty Hill Goodhind, the Goodhind descendants also share this ancestry. Your Goodhind article had lots of new additions for my family tree.

Also, I should mention, if you Google Goodhinds of Saltford you’ll find the complete ancestry for the Goodhind family by another cousin, John Goulstone. You’ll also see the connection with Charles Hill Goodhind. Did I ever mention that Betty Hill Goodhind’s parents were Richard Goodhind and Sarah Hill, which is where the Hill comes from.

Many thanks, Peter. Now what about more on the Goodhind Family from descendants please?
