Gonks Remembered Alan Payne February 2022
In the 1960s Box had its own pop group called by various names including The Woodchucks, The Four Specs and The Gonks. The group achieved national fame touring with the pop star Twinkle and appearing on television on Sunday Night at the London Palladium.
Now you have the opportunity to relive those times in a once-only revival of the band organised by original member and lead guitarist Geoffrey Bray, seen in attached photo. It's all in aid of a good cause as Geoffrey is patron of a national cancer charity Hope for Tomorrow to which all profits will be donated. |
The date of the event is Saturday 21 May 2022 at The Regal Theatre Minehead where you can combine the music with a steam journey on The West Somerset Railway and Michelin-starred food courtesy of Lucknam Park Hotel's renowned chef Hywel Jones. If you prefer, you can just book for the gig to listen to three of the original Gonk members (including Geoffrey). You can find full details of how to book for events and other activities organised by the charity at this drop-down link:

Thanks to Geoffrey for responding to the request by Marcus Gray in the last issue. We are told that more details of Box's famous band and of life in the village in the 1960s are planned for later this year.
