Brookwell Concluded
Lisa Toghill August 2016 In the last issue we told the story of the sad demise of Brookwell, the house on Box Hill which was structurally unsound and eventually pulled down. Lisa Toghill has kindly written about how she was born in the property and she and her family were its last occupiers. Regarding the cottage at Box Hill called Brookwell, I was born there in 1970 and my brother was also born there a year later.
My parents moved there in 1969, renting it from a gentleman called Mr Few, who had bought the property from Mr Loader.
We moved out in 1975, the only reason being because the house was slipping down.
The property was then sold to Mr Norris and it was later demolished, becoming an empty site and today there is no evidence of the property above ground level. Below left: the modern entrance to the site (replicating the historic photograph above) and
