A contemporary map of the area omits Boxfields cottages (courtesy David Pollard)
In Carolyn Pote's article about Boxfield Story, she suggested that some of the houses were built later than the others.
This is accurate. The extract from an 1864 quarry plan, shown above, does show a gap in the houses, which gap no longer exists.
Underground the gallery or room (now known as the Cathedral) is where the well is, to which she refers.
