People’s memories of Box Rec depend on their individual interests, of course. Simon Bray remembered the story of Box Rovers in the 1990s and, particularly, the championship winning side of 1993.

In 1993 Box Rovers won the WG Parr trophy and were the Division 2 champions of the Chippenham League. They beat the favourites, the Rose & Crown who had not been beaten in over a year, with a 3-2 win and goals from Martin Jenks, Tony Harrison and Alan Godwyn. Simon Bray remembers it as a great achievement for Box and provided us with the headline photo of the winning team.

Children's Football Tournament
Simon and his Uncle Colin started the first AFC Corsham tournament in 1993, held on Box Rec. Simon is very passionate about grassroots football and was, until he stepped down at the end of 2025, a long serving Chairman of AFC Corsham.
In 1999, AFC Corsham moved to its permanent home at Leafy Lane, in the parish of Box.[1] Many Box children play for the club, spending evenings and weekends training and playing matches. The Tournament is now held here and has grown to become one of the best in the county.

Simon has been instrumental in setting up and promoting girls’ teams which culminated in Corsham’s U12s Girls Pumas team winning their age group of the tournament in 2025 (photo above)
