Inter-War Years 1918-1939
For contemporaries, the period between 1918 and 1939 wasn’t an interlude between two World Wars but an attempt to return to the stable life that existed before the Great War, rebuilt back to normal after war sufferings. We sometimes regard the years 1918-39 as a division between the old Edwardian order and our modern society. It was a time when the pace of change in society was more marked than in many other generations. It’s what makes the period so fascinating.
