When Bombs Came to Bath and Box    Autumn 2018   Issue 21

Threat of Invasion, 1941-42

It was by utmost secrecy and some luck that the role of the underground quarries in Box was never discovered as the  Central Ammunitions Depot.

The village still prepared for aerial attack, Nazi land invasion and an influx of casualties of adults and children. Fortunately it never happened.

Rather than coping with local casualties, Box turned its preparations to helping in the Bath Blitz 1942.
